Project title: “BRIDGES OF TRUST AND COOPERATION”

Location: Bugojno, Gromiljak, Kiseljak, Busovača, Vitez, Fojnica and Jajce.
The project targets ethnically divided schools in the Middle Bosnia canton. In those “two schools under one roof”, the children are segregated on the basis of ethnicity, they are learning in different classrooms and are being taught by different teachers according to divided, ethnically defined curricula. This project contributes to overcoming the ethnic segregation through working with pupils, teachers and parents. The project targets 8 divided schools (hence, 16 ethnically defined schools).
The project has been implemented in the following primary schools:

-PS ”I.G. Kovačić” Fojnica and PS ”Muhsin Rizvić” Fojnica
-PS ”Braća Jezerčić” Divičani and P.S. ”Berta Kučera” Divičani
-PS ”Gromiljak” Kiseljak and PS ”Kiseljak 1” Bilalovac
-PS ”Brestovsko” Kiseljak and PS ”Kiseljak 1” Bilalovac
-PS ”Vitez” Vitez, H-component and PS ”Vitez” Vitez, B-component
-PS ”Berta Kučera” Jajce and PS ”13 rujan” Jajce
-PS “I osnovna škola” Bugojno and PS “III osnovna škola” Bugojno.
Activities implemented so far:
Activity 1. Workshops for children (138);
Activity 2. Workshops for parents (112);
Activity 3. Workshops for teachers (48);
Activity 4. Educational puppet shows for young children (30);
The project activities have been focused on the following topics:
-social skills (ethnic tolerance, respect for different religions and tolerance);
-peaceful resolving and prevention of conflicts;
-promoting diversity and intercultural understanding;
-respect for children’s rights and social inclusion;
-development of communication skills;
-development of peer education skills and methodology.
The results achieved so far:
-The level of cooperation between family and school has increased.
-Peer education has been affirmed and accepted as a method of education.
-Developed and improved: internationalism, respect and acceptance of all people, regardless of their skin colour, religion and ethnicity.
-Communication skills and peaceful conflict prevention have been improved.
-Attitudes were corrected and there was a change in behaviour among project beneficiaries (lower level of generalisation, reduced influence -đof prejudices and stereotypes).
-Multi-ethnic cooperation intensified.
-Increased level of knowledge and awareness of the project topics.
-Interaction between children, teachers and parents of different ethnic groups (but also among representatives of the same ethnic group) has been enhanced through participation in joint activities.
