One-minute movies that had been entirely produced by children with and without disability were presented to the audience in Banja Luka, Derventa and Novi Travnik.
In these three cities, during the last week, an inclusive five-day workshop was held, which was attended by children with and without disabilities.
Guided by trainers from the Genesis Project in Banja Luka and Derventa, and the Foundation for Creative Development in Novi Travnik, children have made the concepts of the movies and filmed movies through which they pointed to the talents, potentials and possibilities.
The workshop was attended by children from the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation “Dr Miroslav Zotović”, primary schools in Banja Luka and the Center for the Blind in Derventa, children from the primary school “Safvet beg Basagic” and the Education and Rehabilitation Center “Duga” in Novi Travnik.
The screening of movies made in these municipalities showed the audience all the talent and creativity of these children, and many were moved to tears. Some of these youngsters want to become doctors, some kayakers, and some even actors. All together, they have shown through the short movie story that with effort, work and creativity one can accomplish a lot and that there are no boundaries.
Movies are being recorded within the “Take us seriously – it’s about ability” project, implemented by the Genesis Project NGO, in partnership with UNICEF, USAID and the EC Delegation in BiH. Their goal is to promote children’s rights and social inclusion, with particular focus on the abilities and rights of children with disabilities. So far four workshops were held, and by the end of September they will have another eight held in different municipalities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The “It’s about ability” campaign, which aims to improve knowledge and change attitudes and practices of the general population towards children with disabilities and their families was initiated by UNICEF, in partnership with USAID and the European Union Delegation in BiH. The campaign is an integral part of the “Strengthening social protection systems and Inclusion in Bosnia and Herzegovina” (SPIS) program, implemented by partners from the institutions of government and UNICEF. The activities of this program contributed to improving the strategic framework and the provision of inclusive services at the local level in the fields of education, child care, early childhood development and early detection and intervention in the case of developmental disabilities.
The “Take us seriously – it’s about ability” project, implemented by the Genesis Project NGO is also an integral part of the “Strengthening social protection systems and Inclusion in Bosnia and Herzegovina” (SPIS) program and the “It’s about ability” campaign.
