This project contributes to overcoming of the ethnic segregation through working with pupils, teachers and parents. In the joint activities, that bring different ethnic groups together, the participants have a chance to build relationships and to discuss issues such as peaceful conflict resolution and prevention, diversity and intercultural understanding, children’s rights and social inclusion, and communication skills. The project targets 4 divided schools (hence, 8 ethnically defined schools) located in Jajce, Vitez and Busovača.
Young people are empowered to act as role models and young leaders in their communities. The overall aim is to contribute to overcoming ethnic segregation. This project aims at developing young leaders and creating safe school environments in 4 divided and segregated schools through educational and pedagogical work in football sections, using football3 methodology and approach. Football3 promotes key life skills and aims at empowering young people to become young leaders in their communities. The most important thing for us is that we try to give children/youth the power to create their own identity, which is not built on the culture they are from. Through here proposed activities and through football, we create a sense of shared values, commonality, unity and a shared purpose.
Main project activities are:
Selection and training of young mediators;
Selection and training of coaches (predominately teachers of sport) and school pedagogues;
Donation of necessary equipment and signing of the memorandums of understanding with the school management (formation of the Football3 sections in the schools);
Selection and training of the players;
Organization and facilitation of the Football3 matches;
Project impact evaluation activities.
Project beneficiaries and selection process
Project beneficiaries are children, from 11 to 14 years of age, attending ethnically divided primary schools in Middle Bosnia canton, interested in training football3 together with their peers from other ethnic group. We think that this age is ideal for accepting new forms of social engagement and for acquiring new knowledge and the development of young leaders’ skills. Children in this age develop comprehensive and important system of values, they can function well in the group, they like to participate in clubs/sections/sports/activities, they are righteous, they have natural wish to cooperate and they are, because of that, cooperative. They like to be noticed and awarded for their efforts, they are good in problems solving and they are proud of their accomplishments.
