This school year, students from eight elementary schools in the Central Bosnia Canton will engage in football matches with no limitations. With the guidance of our Genesis Project team, students and their PE teachers will master the Football3 methodology and get the opportunity to socialize and compete with their peers from other schools in a tournament scheduled for spring.
There are no barriers to participation!
Football3 is a unique way of playing football that involves both girls and boys and asks them to decide together on the rules for the game. For example, the rule that every second goal is scored by a girl or a boy is often used. In other words, a goal is not counted if it is scored by a boy or girl for the second time in a row. Named after the “three halves” – pre-match, match and post-match talks – Football3 includes key life lessons in each match and calls for fair play, teamwork, respect and responsibility.
What do we need the referee for?
After each game, students reflect on their own and the behavior of other players on the field. Teams are awarded points for the goals scored, for fair play during the game and for the behavior of individual players during the game. Football3 is played without a classic referee, which means that players must learn how to peacefully resolve any potential conflicts using discussions and agreements.
The Football3 methodology can also be used in other sports to create mixed teams and to master skills of good communication, respect and responsibility. So far, cooperation agreements on the use of the Football3 methodology have been signed with 8 elementary schools, for which the necessary sports equipment for matches and training has been provided. Those are:
- First elementary school Donji Vakuf,
- Elementary school “Hasan Kjafija Pruščak” Donji Vakuf,
- Elementary school “Kiseljak 1” Kiseljak,
- Elementary school “Kaćuni” Busovača,
- Third elementary school Bugojno,
- First elementary school Jaklić Bugojno,
- Elementary school “Novi Travnik” Novi Travnik and
- Elementary school “Safvet-beg Bašagić” Novi Travnik.
In the coming months, the Genesis Project team will train 16 trainers, PE teachers and 24 students who will then pass on their knowledge of the Football3 methodology to their peers. The activities of the project “Bridges of Trust and Cooperation – Genesis: Football for Peace Academy” are implemented with the support of the UEFA Foundation for children.
