Loes Lammerts, Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands in BiH visited the Primary school “Holandija” in Slatina regarding the successful completion of the “Rebuilding peace and trust” project which was sponsored by the Royal Netherlands Embassy.
This project was implemented by the NGO Genesis Project from Banja Luka, and it included two schools, Primary school in Slatina and Primary School “Fajtovci” in Fajtovci.
The teachers and students from both schools participated in the workshops and seminars on communication, prejudices, stereotypes and the like. The schools were also donated the computer equipment that will be used to continue the communication.
When visiting the school in Slatina, deputy of the Dutch ambassador said that the cooperation between the two schools is an extraordinary example for all other schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina and that she is satisfied with what was done.
She stressed the importance of building trust, peace and tolerance, especially among the younger generations.
As pointed out by the representatives of both schools that participated in the project, they would like to continue with the cooperation through new activities and they are hoping to get the support for it.
It is interesting that the school in Slatina was named after the Kingdom of the Netherlands more than 40 years ago, in the honour of the Dutch journalist Paul W. Russel who, after the devastating earthquake that struck Banja Luka in 1969, helped its reconstruction.
As pointed out by the director of the Primary school “Slatina” Novislav Tepic, it is one of the few schools in BiH that has not changed their name.
He emphasized that the visit of the Deputy Ambassador Loes Lammerts is the first visit of the Dutch delegation after more than four decades and is a significant step forward in the development of good relations.
