Extension project „Prevention of Peer Violence and Gender Based Violence in Primary Schools” will be executed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely, of 10 targeted primary schools, 6 of them are located in Republika Srpska and 4 primary schools are located in Fedaration of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Primary school selected to participate in this project were identified in consultations with representatives of Ministry of Education of Republika Srpska, representatives of Ministry of Education of Una-Sana Canton and representatives of Ministry of Education of Middle Bosnia Canton.

Activity 1. Survey implementation in selected school:
• Determination of the level of violence in schools.
• Identification of the most prominent forms of violence.
• Survey will be conducted at three levels: pupils from 3rd grade to 5th grade, pupils from 6th grade to 9th grade and teachers (school personnel).
• Sensitisation of pupils, teachers, school management and parents toward problem of violence at the school level through dissemination of assessment final data.
• Serve as baseline for development of the school roles and responsibilities and responses related to peer violence and gender based violence.
• In total 4 surveys on the level of peer violence and gender based violence conducted (1 survey per school (4 new school)).
• In total, 160 pupils will participate in the survey (40 children per school).
• In total, 60 teachers will participate in the survey (15 teachers per school).

Activity 2.Putting in place School Coordination Board on Non – Violence:
• School Coordination Board on Non – Violence (SCB) will be a school body consisted of 5 persons (preferably): principal, school pedagogue, psychologist, social worker (if any), representative of Counsel of parents and representative of Council of Pupils.
• SCB will collect results of the survey, assemble them, analyse and form a group of school values, roles and responsibilities and responses related to violence amongst children.
• The SCB will act to put in place and maintain elements of the School Safety Network.
• The SCB will act during project implementation and if needed after project completion, otherwise its responsibilities will be transferred to regular school management bodies (e.g. School Board, Council of Teachers, Council of Pupils, Council of Parents, etc.)
• In total 4 SCB put in place (1 SCB per school, 4 new schools)
• In total, 8 meetings of SCB (2 meetings per school)

Activity 3. Basic training for education of teachers on peer violence and gender based violence (GBV): • Schoolteachers will acquire the necessary knowledge to identify forms of peer violence and gender based violence, how to react to violence, how and to whom to refer, how to monitor children’s behaviour.
• Basic training will last for approximately 3 hours
• In total, there will be 4 trainings organized (1 training per school)
• In total, 60 teachers will participate in basic training on peer violence and gender based violence prevention (15 teachers per school (4 new schools))

Activity 4. Training for trainers on peer violence and gender based violence (teachers – mentors):
• Teachers will acquire knowledge and skills necessary to conduct workshops with children aiming at increasing knowledge on violence prevention and skills how to transfer their knowledge to other teachers
• Teachers will acquire knowledge about causes and consequences of violence, how to empower their pupils with skills to effectively react to violence
• Teachers will be closely introduced with the elements of School Safety Network, how to support and maintain School Safety Network. • Training for trainers will last for approximately 2 hours
• In total, 16 teachers will participate in training for trainers on peer violence and gender based violence (4 teachers per school (4 new schools))
• In total, there will be 4 trainings organized (1 training per school)

Activity 5. Peer support workshops
• Set of specially designed workshops will be used for training of a group of selected pupils on peer support methodology. These pupils will be educated on violence prevention, forms, sources and consequences of violence amongst peers. Armed violence risk education will be included as a one of the workshop topics.
• Peer supporters along with their teachers will identify and organize specific modes of peer support activities in order to apply and integrate their knowledge on violence prevention into school and after school activities.
• One peer support workshop will last for 45 minutes. (One school class)
• In total, 90 pupils will participate in peer support workshops (15 pupils per school (4 new schools and 2 old schools)
• In total, there will be 30 peer support workshops organized. (5 per school)

Activity 6. Putting in place School Safety Network
• School Safety Network will ensure implementation of responses related to peer violence and gender based violence with clearly defined roles and responsibilities of teachers, other school personnel, parents and pupils that will contribute to prevention of these types of violence in school environment.
• Putting in place system of Confidence box (children can address violence issues in confidence and receive adequate response).
• Support and coordination of peer support activities.
• Support violence prevention activities through other school groups/sections, organise activists for additional violence prevention activities.
• Establish and maintain data base on violence and undertaken responses.
• In total, 10 School Safety Network put in place (1 School Safety Network per school)

Activity 7. Workshops with parents
• Set of specially designed topics will be used for workshop of a group of selected parents on violence prevention, forms, sources and consequences of violence. Armed violence risk education will be included as a one of the workshop topics.
• One workshop will last for 45 minutes. (One school class)
• In total, 90 parents will participate in workshops for parents (15 parents per school (4 new schools and 2 old schools)
• In total, there will be 12 workshops with parents organized.

Activity 8. Workshops with parents and pupils
• Set of specially designed topics will be used for workshop of a group of selected parents and group of selected pupils on violence prevention, forms, sources and consequences of violence.
• One workshop will last for 45 minutes. (One school class)
• In total, 90 parents and 90 pupils will participate in workshops for parents and pupils (15 parents and 15 pupils per school (4 new schools and 2 old schools))
• In total, there will be 6 workshops with parents and pupils organized.

Activity 9. Support the transfer of knowledge peer educators
We hold meetings regularly with peer educators and develop with them new workshops and new preparation for the homeroom class.
• One meeting will last for 45 minutes. (One school class)
• 8 meetings will conduct (2 meeting per school)
• 50 pupils will participate (4 old schools)

Expected results of the project:
– Quality baseline information on attitudes, perceptions and knowledge on peer violence and gender based violence in targeted primary schools is available and informs action planning at the school level.
– Increased capacity of schools to recognize and respond to violence
– Put in place mechanism for monitoring of violence at the school level

New target group are parents, teachers from new schools who will participate in basic trening, 16 teachers/trainers from new schools (4 teacher trainers per school), pupils from new schools and members of School Coordination Boards on Non – Violence from new schools( 4 new schools).
