A formal promotion of the project “Promotion of peace and security through educational, interactive theatre performances in primary schools / Safe Students – Gender Responsive Schools” was held today in Travnik in the amphitheatre of the Primary school “Travnik”. Promotion was marked by performing the play “Friends are made, not added”, which is being conducted as part of the project implemented by the NGO Genesis Project with the support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, and with the approval and consent of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Central Bosnia Canton.
The promotion was attended by the representatives of the Canadian Embassy, including Her Excellency Isabelle Poupart, Ambassador of Canada to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mr. David Morgan, Deputy Director of the Southeast Europe and Eurasia Division of Global Affairs Canada, Katica Čerkez, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Central Bosnia Canton.
This project and the play stand out by the timeliness of the theme and the fact that the idea for their realization came from the elementary school teachers and primary school students across the Central Bosnia Canton, who noticed the lack of their students’ knowledge and skills, and which would help them to behave more appropriately in the “virtual world”. Throughout the play, the students are asked: how many likes have you got on Facebook; do you have Facebook friends you do not know in person, do you receive strange or unpleasant messages from unknown profiles? The fact is that communicating through social networks carries many benefits but also dangers. Especially for teenagers. And these dangers are the theme of our play.
We are sure that the awareness of children who watch the play and who directly participate in the direct exchange of information on gender equality will be raised regarding the above-mentioned topics, and that they will learn how to protect themselves, as well as people around them, especially from the dangers which come from the internet.
