School children from the elementary school “Lovro Karaula” in Livno demonstrated that it is a must to talk about bullying and that the pupils should actively participate in such activities. With the assistance of a pedagogue Dona Hrga, the students of this school made an effort to pass the knowledge gained, in the workshops held by the Genesis Project, to their friends therefore they held several presentations on the prevention of peerviolence. The presentations were held by the students who have been educated by the representatives of the Genesis Project on presentation skills and peer support to the prevention of violence during the 2015/2016 school year. All of the presentations were well received by the present students and undoubtedly contributed to raising awareness about the issue of bullying and the importance of prevention. This group of peer educators did a great job, and we hope that their example will be followed by other schools.
In the area of the HBC, during 2016, the NGO Genesis Project implemented the activity “Support of intercultural, inclusive and peace education and prevention of violence in primary schools from HBC”. This activity is part of the project “Application of the Concept of Human Security in order to Stabilize Communities in Canton 10“, which was funded by the UN Fund for Human Security and implemented by the UN agencies in BiH (UNICEF, IOM, UNHCR and UNDP) for three years. The project’s aim was the application of the concept of human security with special emphasis on the needs of the returnee population and socially vulnerable groups by establishing partnerships with the municipal, cantonal government and civil society organizations, in order to ensure local acceptance and support, and long-term sustainability of the project.
One of the important sub-activities was the educational work with peer educators. In every elementary school in the county, the NGO Genesis Project formed and educated a group of peer educators with the aim of further transmission of acquired knowledge concerning the prevention of bullying. We are pleased that this objective is being gradually realized.
