The final event for the 5th eUPSHIFT workshop in BiH brought together 35 young people aged 13 to 19 from the municipalities of Višegrad, Zvornik, Rudo, Kalinovik, Šekovići, Milići, Bijeljina, Foča and Šamac. Through socializing and exchanging ideas, the participants noticed that everyone has the same or similar problems and challenges in their towns and villages.
Through introduction workshops in small groups and team presentations, young people from 9 teams from the 5th eUPSHIFT workshop learned together and made new friends. “We needed this, to socialize and learn in person, after so much time apart,” said the UPSHIFT participant, adding that the best friendships are made by socializing in person, not online. Some of the topics that young people dealt with at the 5th eUPSHIFT workshop are:
How could we educate young people about the bad influence of games of chance?
How could we encourage the development of awareness about a healthy way of eating among children and young people in Kalinovik?
How could we give children more opportunities for creative and educational activities in nature in their free time?
How could we reduce the presence of violence and raise awareness of the very existence of violence and its consequences in adolescent partner relationships?
The workshop on financial literacy with many new terms and a quiz was introduced to young people by the director of the humanitarian organization “Genesis Project”, Dijana Pejić. She advised these young people to invest in their education, develop marketable skills and spend time with people they can learn from. Amila Madžak, head of the program for adolescents and young people, addressed the audience on behalf of UNICEF in Bosnia and Herzegovina and invited everyone to join the U-Report platform, a tool by which UNICEF communicates with young people around the world.
The UPSHIFT program in Bosnia and Herzegovina is implemented by the Humanitarian Organization “Genesis Project” in cooperation with UNICEF in BiH through the project ” Strengthening Social and Health Protection in Response to the Covid-19″ with financial support from USAID in BiH.
